Visual communication like Graphic Design consists of simple design elements that are combined in various ways to communicate messages. Line, shape, form, texture, and balance are building blocks that can add up to create engaging outcomes that communicate specific messages with emotional emphases.

For example, lines can be angry. Shapes can be soft. Forms can be massive. Textures can be smooth…all depending on how they are rendered. As you learn these basics, you’ll begin to understand how elements can be combined for more effective communication.
