About This Experience Booster
It’s easy to take trackpads and touch for granted when using the web. But some people cannot use these devices—they rely on a keyboard for every interaction. With this in mind, designers should test websites for keyboard navigation.
To better understand how usable (or not!) a website is, try navigating using only your fingertips. Use the tab key to cycle though links and the return key to select. You may gain special appreciation for how people use the web—and a little disdain for designers who skip this important accessibility feature.
Note to designers: I know this firsthand—it’s so time consuming to get keyboard navigation right, but it’s worth the time! It’s one way we can care for people who use the tools we create.
